HOIMA – The EC spokesperson Jotham Taremwa has on September 25 revealed that polling material for the Hoima Woman MP by-election will be delivered to the different polling stations at 4 am on Thursday, September 26 when the elections will take place.
According to Mr Taremwa, EC delivered the polling materials and are being kept at their offices in Hoima.
“As you notice all our materials are ready. The polling kit ready for dispatch to 266 polling stations in Hoima District,” Taremwa said.
The materials include ballot papers, transparent temper evident envelops, aprons, condoning tapes and seals among others.
The delivered polling materials have been inspected by the district Returning Officer Douglas Matsiko, Police and agents of the two candidates. Mr Matsiko commended the EC and the neighboring districts for the support given to his office.
“We want to have good coordination and supervision in the entire exercise until we return the results,” Matsiko said.
Adding that “These materials were packed from the EC headquarters. They have serial numbers on each ballot box. We are verifying each box to ensure that it is well sealed and the right materials are inside.”
The last rallies for the candidates ended on Tuesday, September 24.
The Hoima woman MP seat fell vacant after Ms. Tophace Kaahwa Byagira (NRM) chose to represent the people of the newly created Kikuube district that was carved out of Hoima in July 2018.
In a rare show of solidarity, a combined force of the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Democratic Party(DP), Alliance for National Transformation and People Power pressure group have joined forces to rally behind an FDC candidate in the Hoima Woman MP by-election.
