KAMPALA – The just concluded NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections have seen three newcomers voted to the ruling party’s top organ.
Accordingly, Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah was voted Vice-Chairperson Northern region, Minister Godfrey Kiwanda voted Vice-Chairperson Central region and Chris Baryomunsi voted Vice-Chairperson Western region.
Oulanyah beat the incumbent Sam Engola with a vote difference of 5,809 as the former obtained 7,474 votes.
Commenting on his victory, Oulanyah took to his social media pages and posted, “Life is a journey, and this phase, as a member of CEC, has began! I intend to make it a worthwhile journey, together with you all. I further intend to work hard to deserve the trust given to me by over 7,000 delegates.”
On the other hand, Minister Kiwanda won the Central region slot after winning with 4749 votes as the incumbent Hajji Abdul Nadduli was disqualified from CEC nomination.
Nadduli was disqualified on grounds that he didn’t resign his government position as Senior Presidential Advisor.
Baryomunsi scooped the Chairperson Western with 5947 votes beating the incumbent Maj. Gen. Matayo Kyaligonza who got 2550 votes.
