KAMPALA – Mr Erias Lukwago was on Thursday, 13 August 2020 nominated to run for the position of Lord Mayor on the FDC ticket, effectively ending speculation that he was set to seek the party flag for the presidency
Mr Lukwago, during the nomination exercise at the FDC offices, was flanked by his Deputy Doreen Nyanjura, Nakawa MP Michael Kabaziguruka, Kawempe South MP Munyagwa Mubarak and FDC woman MP candidate Dr Stella Nyanzi among others.
People interested in picking FDC forms have five days left before the party rolls to party primaries.
The privately-owned Daily Monitor has been reporting that FDC is considering Mr Lukwago for the party flag after their four-time flagbearer indicated that he will not stand again.
The party has already twice postponed nominations of its presidential aspirants with the hope that Dr Besigye would change his mind and pick the nomination forms.
Dr Besigye last week said Mr Lukwago is a very competent person who can carry the FDC flag in the 2021 General Election.
“What I like about Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago is the consistency and clarity in his political pursuits. He is clear on what the struggle is and he commits unwaveringly to it. Mr Lukwago could make a good president for this country,” he said.
The FDC has set August 18 as the day for nomination of the party’s presidential candidate.
