KAMPALA – Lawyers representing Dicksons Kateshumbwa, who won the NRM flag for the Sheema Municipality MP seat, have asked the party electoral commission to dismiss the petition filed by rival Dr Elioda Tumwesigye alleging irregularities.
Mujurizi, Alinaitwe and Byamukama Advocates, in a 15-page response to the petition, said Dr Tumwesigye’s claims that the September 4 NRM primary election was marred by voter intimidation and bribery, among others, are baseless, irregular and not worth any attention.
“The petitioner is questioning your decision as the Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission regarding the election roadmap. We will not respond to his submissions on this issue as you are better placed with the authority to respond. However, I am surprised that an incumbent Member of Parliament who has held the post for 20 years can attribute his loss in the primaries to among others a shortened campaign period. On a contrary, this would have disadvantaged me as a new contestant,” the lawyers state.
