KAMPALA – It is no doubt 2021 presidential hopeful Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine paved the way for most Ugandan entertainers of his generation to join politics.
The Kyadondo East legislator’s political success has inspired many of his fellow artists to vie for different political positions.
Much as many of them like Dr Jose Chameleone, Hilderman, Raga Dee, Geoffrey Lutaaya, Mathias Walukagga, Khalifah Aganaga among others seriously contesting for different political positions, others like Gereson Wabuyu alias Gravity Omutujju are less interested.
The luga flow artist was on Wednesday seen performing at Erias Lukwago’s home in Wakaliga where he (Lukwago) officially launched his political campaigns and manifesto for another term as Kampala Lord Mayor.
Lukwago is up against musicians, Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleone and Ragga Dee real name Daniel Kazibwe, among other aspirants.
And just when everyone thought that all artistes will be behind Chameleone this race after he (Gravity) was recently at Chameleone’s camp in, Gravity came public and revealed that he will be campaigning for Lukwago instead.
Asked why he wouldn’t rally behind his fellow artists, Omutujju said he favors Lukwago because he has always been hands on.
“Erias Lukwago has been around and we have all witnessed how hands-on he is. He has always been on ground every time something happens in Kampala. He was the first on the scene when the church was broken down, he has always been involved in market issues so I believe he’s the right person,” he said.
Just after leaving the campaign launch, the Trouble Tabu Entertainment C.E.O further affirmed his support for Lukwago in a phone call interview with a local radio station.
“If I die, I die but am going to support and campaign for Erias Lukwago to retain his Mayoral seat come rain or sunshine. Lukwago is a good leader and he has done lots of good things and deserves the Lord Mayor seat,” he said.
Gravity further revealed that he chose to campaign for Lukwago because he (Lukwago) paid for his services as a musician.
Lukwago financed the production and video of Gravity’s new song composed for him (Lukwago) titled “Kampala Yaffe”.
Chameleone held a meeting a few days ago and many of his fellow singers who included Spice Diana, Victor Kamenyo, Pallaso, Kalifah Aganaga, Fresh Daddy, Fresh Kid, and Gravity among others came through to offer him moral and comradeship support.
Gravity’s statements officially mean that he has dumped Jose Chameleone just days after showing face at his meeting where he had called fellow artists to endorse him for the top Kampala seat.
