
KAMPALA- Karamoja Affairs Minister Eng John Byabagambi has revealed he will quit elective politics for his private business and family.
The revelation follows the defeat of Byabagambi by Dr John Paul Ninkusiima alias Panadol for the Ibanda South Constituency MP in the just concluded NRM primary elections.
Byabagambi obtained 12,534 (41.15%) votes against Ninkusiima’s 15,983 (52.47%).
“I will now concentrate on my international businesses and family. I have quit elective politics” Byabagambi told Eiraka TV Online.
Earlier this week, a prominent musician, Sister Charity released a video blasting Byabagambi for for not paying for a campaign song she composed for him.
In 2001, he entered politics and contested for the parliamentary seat of Ibanda County South in Ibanda District.
He won in 2001 and was re-elected in 2006, 2011 and 2016 on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) political party ticket.
After serving as Minister of Works and Transport from 1 March 2015 until 6 June 2016, he was reassigned to Cabinet Minister for Karamoja on 6 June 2016.
