MAKINDYE – The UPDF has confirmed that former the Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura, is being questioned over several issues at Makindye Military Barracks.
“Reference to yesterday’s Press Statement regarding Gen Kale Kayihura and this is to update as follows: the General was indeed flown to Kampala from his farm in Kashagama – Lyantonde District and is being questioned on a matter the details of which cannot at this point be divulged,” a statement issued by the army spokesperson, Brig Richard Karemire, on Thursday evening reads in part.

“We will keep you informed about any other developments regarding the matter,” he added.
Brig Karemire also said Gen Kayihura had access to his lawyers and family members.
However, there are reports that his arrest is connected to the murder of former police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi.
The army announced on Wednesday that Gen. Kayihura had a day earlier been ordered to report to the Chief of Defence Forces Gen. David Muhoozi, an order that could not be affected after former police chief was found missing at his Kashagama home on Tuesday. He was eventually plucked out of the home by helicopter on Wednesday morning.

“A helicopter was subsequently dispatched to transport him from there but on arrival, Gen. Kale had travelled to Mbarara so it had to return to Entebbe Airbase,” Brig. Karemire wrote.

“A helicopter was today sent back to Kashagama and has returned safely to Kampala with him on board,” Brig. Karemire said in his statement without disclosing any further details.
