FOOTBALL–2016 Masaza Cup champions Buddu had to do it the hard way against Busiro to take third place at this year’s championships.
Buddu who lost their quest to defend the title to Gomba in the semi final, were in shambles at the start as Busiro went 1-0 ahead as early as the sixth minute when striker Kalule lashed onto a through ball to finish in style.
It was soon 2-0 with four minutes to play in the first half as Kalule completed his brace.
Buddu showed indications that they were still in it by grabbing one at the stroke of half time through Micdad Ssenyonga.
The teams were soon level inside five minutes of the second half as Buddu’s striker Frank Ssebufu headed home his fourth of the campaign.
Buddu were clearly the better team and when Ssebufu was brought down inside the area, one result was always expected from the resulting penalty as Ivan Sserubiri ensured that went into the lead for the first time on the night.
Ivan Kato made sure that the self-proclaimed best county in Buganda walked home with SH5 million rather than Sh3 million reserved for fourth place finisher.
Buddu county chief Vicent Pokino said the consolation was not bad and that his players had done their best for the honours.
“I am so pleased with the players because it is always not easy when you are playing for third place but the determination and character they showed makes me believe they will win it next year,” he said.
