FOOTBALL-In a game devoid of action, six times league winner Express started the new campaign with a 0-0 draw at home to Kirinya Jinja SS.
Following the trend of the matches played on Tuesday where only one goal was scored in five matches, Express and Kirinya JSS did not disappoint as they also failed to find the back of the net.
The only clear cut opportunity that the red Eagles created was when new signing Steven Bengo freed Micheal Birungi who had only Kirinya goalkeeper Thomas Ikara to beat but blasted over in the first half.
Kirinya JSS was denied a clear penalty as the match was approaching its end when Express defender Hitmana Umar cleary shoved Kirinya’s striker Muwawu Faizol in the back but the referee deemed the assault minor, to the relief of the many square pass moto moto fans in attendence.
“The referee didnot see it as a penalty but we all know that the defender pushed Muwawu,” Kirinya JSS coach Charles Ayeko said after the game.
“To us it is a great result coming to Express and taking a point home,” he added.
Express travel to the west for a date with Mbarara City on Saturday while Kirinya Jinja SS host URA on the same day.
In the other game played on Wednesday, URA FC become the first team to score two goals in a single game this season as they saw off Moses Basena’s UPDF 2-1 at Namboole.
URA’s goals where scored by Bokota Labama and Fred Okot while Rubangakene Walter scored UPDF’s consolation.
