FOOTBALL–Uganda Cranes officially had their last training on Thursday morning before they fly to Congo Brazzaville for the last game of the FIFA World Cup qualifier 2018.
Although it is seen as a game where both teams will play for formality as they are required to complete their games, Cranes interim head coach Moses Basena dismissed such claims.
“Yes we can’t finish as number one but the game is equally important,” Basena said.
“We can still finish second ahead of Ghana if we win and i guess that is enough motivation going into the game.
Cranes are currently second in the group with eight points, two ahead of Ghana, both teams having played five games.
With Egypt seating comfortably at the top holding a four-point healthy lead, only second place is up for grabs in group E.
“We need to win because I require to gather points to help in the seedings for the next tournaments,” Basena continued.
“It I also significant to individuals because for I personally, it improves my CV,” he added.
This World Cup qualificaion is seen by some as another failure but looking at the teams in the group, one would wounder whether Uganda has performed beyond expectation.
Cranes depart for Congo tomorrow morning where they will stay until Sunday.
