FOOTBALL–After two-time defending champions KCCA FC confirmed that their trio of defender Isaac Muleme, goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan and striker Derrick Nsibambi will be leaving the Lugogo based side this January, the hunt for new recruitments is in full gear.
Reliable sources indicate that veteran midfielder Steven Bengo and youthful goalie Tom Ikara are poised to become the first signings for the Kasasiro Boys this transfer window.
Bengo has been at Express FC for the first half of the season where he has failed to impress and is now a free agent after his short term deal with the Red Eagles expired.
The former Bunamwaya and SC Villa playmaker has been training with KCCA and their coach Mike Mutebi confirmed that the club was interested in signing him in a short term deal.
“I think Bengo will be playing for us come the second half of the season,” said Mike Mutebi when he was asked about Bengo.
“Yes he is training with us and i can confirm that we are interested in signing him,” Mutebi added.
The move makes a lot of sense as Bengo would be a direct replacement for departing Allan Katerega who is belived to have left the Kasasiro Boys after talks of signing a permanent contract broke down late last month.
Kateregga who has not turned up for training with KCCA is belived to be headed for Czech republic where is will have trials at an unidentified club.
Bengo was with KCCA till the end of the 2013/14 season and if the deal materializes, he will be playing for the Lugogo based side in his second spell.
News from Jinja suggests that Kirinya JSS shot stopper Tom Ikara will also be joining KCCA January as replacement for Zambian heavyweights, Nkana Red Devils bound Benjamin Ochan.
Ikara has been one of the stand out performers in the league for the last one and half years and would surely add value to the team.
He has also featured prominently in the National team’s set up of late and was also one of three goalkeepers who represented the country at the just concluded CECAFA Senior challenge cup in Kenya.
With KCCA number Charles Lukwago also in fine form since the start of this season, it will be an interesting battle between him and Ikara for the number one Jersey at Lugogo.
Former SC Villa midfielder Alex Kizza is also training with KCCA FC at the moment but it remains to be known whether the league and cup double winners I last season will be signing him.
