Azam Uganda Premier League
Express FC 4-0 Soana FC
Mutessa II War Memorial Stadium.
Relegation-threatened giants, Express FC put on quite a show as they cruised to a comfortable 4-0 victory at home to Soana FC.
The Red Eagles struck twice in either half to move off the foot of the Azam Uganda Premier League.
The first goal came as early as the 14 minute when recent signing Zimula Jalil kept his nerve to slot in from close range after the Soana defence failed to deal with a routine Micheal Birungi cross.
Five minutes later, Micheal Birungi raced through on goal following an excellent through pass by Ayub Kisalita to finish exquisitely as he (Birungi) lobbed the on rushing Soana goalie to make it 3-0.
In the second half, Express looked like they would be adding on their 2-0 advantage and that’s exactly what they did when Birungi turned in Jalil’s low cross to score his second of the day on 60 minutes.
With 17 minutes on the clock, substitute Ochaya Sharif sent in a cross from the right and again the Soana defence failed to deal with it and former SC Villa midfielder, Ayub Kisalita scrambled the ball home to make it 4-0.
“It is good that we finally get three points in a game, said Express head coach Shafic Bisaso after the game.
“It has been our target for a while now and after the crazy game against Police which we lost 4-3, the hunger to win only increased.
“Today we played good game where we scored four goals and did not concede so we have a lot of positives to take from the game.
“We play Vipers next and it will be tough but we will be aiming for maximum points again because we still need up to 18 points from the last nine games to survive.
Asked about Ayub Kisalita being used in his midfield currently despite him previously used at center back in his first games after joining in January, Bisaso had this to say.
“Ayub (Kisalita) is a natural midfielder and you can see he is more comfortable there.
“At the beginning we had issues at the back and thought he could help us there as he is immensely talented but i hope he doesn’t have to play in defence anymore because he gives us so much when he plays in the midfield.
Kisalita has scored two goals in as many games since he was moved to his preferred position in the pitch.
This was Shafick Bisaso’s second league victory in the league since joining Express in December. His first came against Bul in a 2-0 home win last month.
Express now move to 14th on the log with 19 points from 21 games, one point adrift of safety.
Soana slump to 11th with 24 points from 21 games and are still five points away from the drop.
