Uganda’s representatives Vipers SC drew with Zanzibar’s JKU FC in their opening game at the on-going CECAFA Kagame cup in Tanzania
Vipers SC trailed early in the game and their resolve was put to task against a resilient and determined side at the Chamazi stadium
Abraham Musa gave JKU the lead inside 16 minutes when he capitalized on a poor clearance by Venoms’ defender Bashir Asiku but the Venoms leveled matters on 55 minutes into the second half thanks to 2017/18 UPL top scorer Dan ‘Muzeeyi’ Sserunkuma.

Despite a few scoring chances, neither of the two sides could find the winner and had to settle for a point in the end.
Miguel Da Costa handed three new players their debuts with goalkeeper Bashir Ssekagya starting in goal in the absence of Ismail Watenga and James Alitho who are poised to make a move away.
Another new recruit Ibrahim Kiyemba started at the heart of defence partnering Geoffrey Wasswa while Rahmat Ssenfuka who has just joined from Police FC played in the midfield alongside skipper Taddeo Lwanga and Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye.
Asiku started at right back while Ashraf Mandela was deployed as the left fullback. In the attacking positions, Duncan Sseninde and Pius Wangi played on the wings giving support to Sserunkuma.
Sseninde and Tumwesigye paved way for Karisa rian Nkuubi respectively at the start of the second half.
Vipers SC will return to action on Sunday against defending champions Azam FC from Tanzania.
The Uganda Premier League champions are in group alongside Azam FC (Tanzania), JKU(Zanzibar) and Kator FC(South Sudan)
In the other games played on Saturday, Rwanda Premier League champions APR Fc lost their opening match of Group C to Tanzania FA Cup finalists Singida United 2-1.
Holders Azam FC defeated Kator Fc of South Sudan 2-1 at Chamazi stadium.
