KAMPALA – The Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally is officially on after cars were checked at Shell Bugolobi on Thursday and the respective crews cleared to take part in this year’s edition.
46 crews will start the event on Friday as they take on the Super Special Stage at the Motorsports Arena in Busiika.
Due to the new safety tank rule, over ten crews will run as non homologated class due to lack of the tank.
Meanwhile, all crews will assemble at Silver springs on Friday morning for the ceremonial start before they head to Busiika.
NRC leader Jas Mangat will go first off the ramp followed by ARC leader Manvir Baryan.
Manvir, Piero Cannobio, Jas Mangat, Duncan Mubiru, Christakis Fitidis and Susan Muwonge will be the only ones in position to contend for ARC points.
The ARC class was restricted by the safety fuel tank rule that require all crews to have the safety component to qualify for ARC points. The rule forced several crews into the Group S class.
Reigning ARC champion Baryan heads into Pearl Rally with 50 points while country mate Cannobio is second on 29.
Uganda’s Jas Mangat has 15 points while Duncan Mubiru at seven points that they scored in the Safari Rally.
