Uganda Cranes star, Farouk Miya got off to a flying start at his new club as he scored the winner in their most recent game.
Barely a week after joining Croatian side HNK Gorcia, the 20 year old stole the show as his side won 1-0 against Romanian reigning champions Petrolul Ploiesti at the Velika Gorcia Arena on Tuesday evening in an International friendly.
Miya who played the full 90 minutes scored towards the end of half time when he broke free on goal and slotted in past Isvoranu in Petrolul’s goal.
FC Petrolul Ploie?ti remains in Croatia for the pre-season and will once again face NK Slaven Belupo on Friday.
Miya joined HNK Gorica last week from Belgium top tier giants, Standard Liege on a two-year contract with an option of a one year extension.
Miya struggled to tie down a first team spot at Liege and was a subject of two loan spells; He was first loaned to Belgium side Royal Excel Mouscron and then to FK Sebail in Azerbaijani.
If Miya can regain his form, it would be a major boost for the Uganda Cranes who continue their AFCON 2019 qualifying campaign in September with a game against neighbors Tanzania on the 7th.
Miya previously played for in the Airtel Masaza tournament for Mawokota, St Mary’s Kitende and Vipers SC in the Uganda Premier League.
He left for greener pastures in Europe after captaining the national side to winning the 2015 CECAFA Senior Challenge cup in Ethiopia.
His last tournament before departure was the CHAN 2016 in Rwanda where the Cranes failed to get pasted the group stages.
Miya is so highly regarded in Uganda after scoring the solo goal in a 1-0 win over Comoros in 2016 that say the National team reach the 2017 AFCON tournament after 38 years of near misses.
At the tournament proper, he also scored Uganda’s only goal in the competition as the side drew 1-1 with Burkina Faso in their last group game after losing 1-0 to both Ghana and Egypt.
Miya’s first competitive fixture for Gorcia will come later this month when his newly promoted side take on Rijeka in the HNL Croatian first division.
