Reports doing rounds at Villa Park suggest that the 16 time record Uganda Premier League champions are in advance talks with KCCA FC legend Jackson Mayanja over the vacant head coach’s role at the club.
Villa is currently minus a head coach after Wasswa Bbosa joined Soana FC upon expiry of his deal last month.
Mayanja, a former Cranes international, KCCA FC and El- Marsy attacking midfielder is now believed to be in pole position after Livingstone Mbabazi distanced himself away from the role.
Reliable sources reveal that incumbent SC Villa president Eng. Ben Misagga opted for Mayanja because he wants a coach ready to build a formidable youth team and ready to challenge for trophies.
Reports also suggest that the former Kagera Sugar and Coastal Union tactician is set to be confirmed as the new man to take over this week.
Mayanja is also a former Bunamwaya ( now Vipers SC) coach and served as assistant coach to Dylan Kerr at Tanzania side Simba.
He also deputized Bobby Williamson during his reign as Cranes head coach. Mayanja won the league title with KCCA FC as a player and was also a joint top scorer in 1997.
If he indeed takes over at Villa, he will have one hell of a task to steady a ship that of late looked to be sinking with a host of stars leaving, including captain Bernard Muwanga who joined KCCA Fc towards the end of last month.
SC Villa has a good three quarters of last season but ended up finishing third in the league and lost the Uganda Cup semi final to losing finalist Vipers 1-0 on aggregate.
