After winning the 2017/18 Uganda Premier League, news reaching PML Daily indicate that Vipers SC have sacked head coach Miguel da Costa.
Da Costa has been in charge of the Kitende based side for two years, winning one league title and also reaching the Uganda Cup final last season.
Vipers on Tuesday afternoon released a statement confirming that they had indeed sacked Da Costa.
“The Vipers SC management has today the 17th July 2018 as part of its restructuring process and preparation for the CAF club competitions and upcoming Uganda Premier League season relieved it’s head coach Miguel Jorge Da Costa of his services to the club as coach, read the statement.
“Vipers SC would like to thank Coach Da Costa for his commitment and service to the club and wishes him success in his career advancement going forward.
In his first season, he led Vipers to a second place finish in the league and also saw the side eliminated in the initial stages of the CAF Confederations Cup where they lost to South African club Platinum Stars over two legs.
PML Daily contacted one of Vipers’ senior players who asked for his identity to remain a secret and he confirmed the proceedings.
“Yes i have also been told by the club officials that the coach (Miguel da Costa) has been sacked, he said.
“We are still not sure as to why it has happened but there will be a team meeting in the next few days where hopefully an explanation will be availed to us.
The development comes barely a week after the Venoms were eliminated from the CECAFA Kagame Cup at the quarter finals stage by Kenyan giants Gor Mahia.
The Kagame Cup is officially the last tournament that the Portuguese take charge of Vipers in and it remains to be seen who his replacement will be.
