Makerere- A team responsible for organising the third FISU World University Netball Championship slated for Monday September 17 to 21st, is under intense pressure.
This comes about after the UPDF Engineering Brigade that was contracted to construct the facility has failed to complete it on time.
Ms. Penninah Kabenge the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) and the Head of Sports and Recreation at Makerere University, had earlier told this website that the indoor stadium would be unveiled on Tuesday 11th but according to information obtained, UPDF is to present an incomplete structure for the 3rd edition of the World University Netball championship.
“The indoor stadium is not yet ready, Ms. Kabenge confirmed but remained tight-lipped when asked to give details on the way forward as participants are already jetting in the country for the competition.
Mr Norbert Okiria a supervising engineer at the site, said they work day and night to ensure that the stadium is completed before the week ends.
“As you can see, building materials are being brought in each moment because our client [Makerere University] wants the work complete before this week ends,” he said.
Despite the effort being made by UPDF engineers to ensure the facility is ready, a highly placed source in the university, said they are set to present an incomplete structure given the remaining time.
Uganda won the bid to host the 3rd World University Netball Championships 2018 beating Namibia, England and Jamaica.
Makerere University was proposed to host the competitions a proposal that the university fully embraced and accepted.
