LUGOGO – KCCA FC squandered a chance to go top of the league on Wednesday evening as they were held to a goalless draw at home to Mbarara City.
The Kasasiro Boys came into the game three point behind leaders Vipers SC and a win would see them go top of the summit on goal difference.
However, that would not be the case as Mbarara proved to be a thorn in the foot and managed to hold onto their third consecutive stalemate with KCCA.
After the game in which KCCA were expected to walk away with all three points, their manager Mike Mutebi came out and said he was satisfied with the draw.
“In my opinion, a draw was a fair result for both sides, said Mutebi in his post-match interview.
“On paper we start as favourites especially when we are at home but like i said, it is all different once the game starts.
“The things we teach our players didn’t help today (Wednesday) because Mbarara played for their lives and they were well organised so they made it very difficult for us.
KCCA will now head into their next fixture away to Vipers two points behind the Venoms but Mutebi insists that will not make them alter their approach.
“We know we have competition and we have to do our job but unfortunately we couldn’t win today (Wednesday).
“We are away to Vipers in the next game but we will go there, try to play and win.
KCCA and Mbarara have now drawn their last three league meetings (0-0, 1-1 and 0-0), ever since the Ankole Lions returned to the top flight last season.
The 0-0 draw on Wednesday means that KCCA have taken eight points from a possible 12 at home this season having defeated Tooro 2-1, Bright Stars 2-0 and drew 0-0 with Kirinya JSS.
They have now gone 22 home game minus tasting defeat in the league, winning 17 and drawing five.
The Kasasiro Boys currently sit second on the StarTimes Uganda Premier League log with 11 points from their first 11 outings.
For Mbarara, the point means they slop into 8th on the log having accumulated seven points from their first five games.
In their next fixtures, KCCA are away to Vipers on Saturday while Mbarara entertains SC Villa in Kavumba on the same day.
