Liverpool required a dramatic late Divok Origi goal to defeat Everton 1-0 in the Merseyside derby on Sunday to remain only two points behind leaders Man City who had taken care of AFC Bournemouth 3-1 a day before. In the two London derbies, Chelsea defeated Fulham 2-0 and Arsenal came from 2-1 down to win 4-2 at home to eternal rivals Spurs.
The other top six side-Man United came from 2-0 down to salvage a point away to Southampton on Saturday, leaving Jose Mourinho’s side, 16 points adrift top spot.
Elsewhere, Leicester, Brighton, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Cardiff City all won on a weekend which saw 30 goals scored in the League.
Here are the 11 players that stood out for me in game week 14 in a 4:4:2 formation.
GK. Alison Becker (Liverpool).
What a save to deny Andre Gomes before the late drama that saw Liverpool win the game. Alison was at his absolute best on Sunday.
RB. Aaron-Wan Bissaka (Crystal Palace).
Bissaka keeps on showing why he is one of the best defensive prospects in English football and on Saturday as, he patrolled his line ever so well in Palace’s 2-0 win over Burnely.
CB. Shane Duffy (Brighton).
What a goal scoring defender Duffy is proving to be. Scored the equalizer in Brighton’s 2-0 win over Huddersfield to take his season’s goal tally to an impressive three (3).
CB. Joe Gomez (Liverpool).
Gomez made more clearances than any other Liverpool player (five) during their 1-0 win in the Merseyside derby.
LB. Pablo Zabaleta (West Ham United).
His tackle on Solomon Rondon with West Ham 1-0 was to me the game changer. Zabaleta keeps on defying his age and it is performances like Saturday’s that make him a darling to Hammers.
MF. Lucas Torreira (Arsenal).
Impressive performance after the other for Arsenal’s best signing in a while. Torreira was at it again in the North London derby, also scoring his first goal for the Gunners.
MF. James Maddison (Leicester City).
Sent off in shame for diving the past week, the summer signing made the right impression against Burnely 7 days later with a cleanly taken strike as Leicester won 2-0.
MF. Andros Townsend (Crystal Palace).
In Palace’s 2-0 win over Burnley on Saturday, Townsend scored and assisted in the same Premier League game for only the fourth time, and the first since he did so against Arsenal in December 2017.
MF. Felipe Anderson (West Ham United).
in the absence of Yamalenko, the Brazilian has stepped up big time and he tormented Newcastle all day as West Ham registered a rare victory on the road.
CF. Peirre Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal).
Aubameyang is the first player to score 10 Premier League goals this season. He’s scored with each of his past 10 shots on target including the two against Spurs in Arsenal’s 4-2 derby win on Sunday.
CF. Javier Hernandez (West Ham United).
Javier Hernandez scored with both his shots on target at Newcastle as West Ham defeated the Toon Army 2-0 on Saturday.
