URA FC ended a run of six draws in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League with a 2-0 win away to Bright Stars on Sunday afternoon.
At a time when the team was riding low on confidence especially in front of goal, the Tax Collectors went into the lead through Robert Amunuk’s first goal of the season, on 29 minutes.
One become two for Sam Simbwa’s side with 13 minutes of the 90 to play as Charles Sempa slotted in past Hamuza Muwonge in the Stars’ goal.
In the last minutes, it was more of URA preserving their caution as Fred Kajoba’s side throw everything at them.
In the end, URA held on to all three points which elevate them into 8th on the log with 17 points. They are still unbeaten since the start of the current campaign having won 3 and drawn 8 of their first 11 games.
For Bright Stars, they remain 15th with 19 points from their first 12 fixtures.
In the Jinja Derby, Kirinya JSS and Bul played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Mighty Arena.
Farouq Bangs headed the visitors into the lead inside a minute following lazy defending by Kirinya which resulted into a corner.
At the hour mark, Deogratious Ojok doubled Bul’s advantage to make it two goals in as many games following his winner at home to Onduparaka last Tuesday.
Eleven minutes into the second half, Fred Amaku pulled one back for Kirinya and set the tone for an equalizer 1o minutes later.
Having gone into the game two goals behind leading goalscorer-Bashir Mutanda, Joel Madondo made it 8 for the season with a second goal for Kirinya to ensure the game goes into the last 24 minutes locked at 2-2.
In the end, both side settled for a point meaning that the fixture is yet to register a victory ever since the first two years ago. Kirinya and Bul have now played out five draws in as many games.
The point sees Kirinya climb into 7th on the log with 18 points while Bul remain 6th having accumulated 19 (points) from their first 12 games.
At the Green Light Stadium in Arua, Onduparaka condemned Police FC to a 5th loss of the season.
Rashid Toha converted from the spot on 5 minutes to put the Caterpillars into the lead.
Former KCCA FC striker Ceaser Ochuti made it two for the home side with four minutes to the hour mark.
However, Simon Mbazira reduced the deficit three minutes later with his second goal of the season to ensure a nervy ending.
Despite a late surge by Police to salvage something from the game, Onduparaka held onto their lead to register a 5th victory over Police in as many games.
The three points earned on the day see Onduparaka move into second on the table on 23 points, only one behind leaders KCCA FC.
For Police who have now lost two of their last three games, they drop into 9th on the table with 17 points.
The STarTimes Uganda Premier League will resume on Tuesday afternoon with KCCA FC hosting Paidah Black Angels at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.
