ENTEBBE – Vipers SC have this morning departed for Tunisia ahead of their second leg CAF Confederations Cup play-off round clash against CS Sfaxien.
The Venoms who drew 0-0 with Sfaxien in the first leg will have it all to do against the odds if they are to reach the Group stages of the competition.
Vipers SC coach Micheal Nam Ouma named a 17 man team that is part of the contigent that flew out of the country in the wee hours of Friday morning via Turkish Airlines flight to Istanbul from where the team will connect to Tunis.
Left back Yayo Lutimba misses the trip through suspension. Bashir Sekagya who is still nursing an injury sustained while in Algeria against CS Constantine also stays at home while Davis Kasirye, Rahmat Ssenfuka, Joseph Janjali and Noah Wafula, have all been dropped.
Steven Mukwala travels to play away for the first time after he failed to make the mark for El Merriekh and CS Constantine trips thus if fielded, the youthful striker will make his debut appearance for the club in the CAF inter club competition.
Fabien Mutombora despite starting at home last Saturday against the Tunisian side, travels with the Venoms for the first time as the shot stopper missed the last two away games through injury.
The playing staff led by Captain Tadeo Lwanga includes two goalkeepers, five defenders, six midfielders plus four strikers who are duty bound to die a little for the club flag and the nation at large.
On arrival in the Tunisian capital at 1:35pm tomorrow, the Venoms are scheduled to board a domestic flight to their final destination in Sfax town which is approximately 200kms from Tunis.
Vipers requires a win of any kind or a scoring draw to qualify for the group stages for the first time in the club history.
An advance team is already in Sfax to prepare for the team’s arrival, hotel bookings and do all the necessary requirements ahead of the encounter.
The team is expected to return on Tuesday 22-01-2019 at 03:55am to prepare for the two remaining Startimes Uganda premier league matches against Mbarara City and URA respectively.
