NEBBI – Bright Stars will be hoping to get their season back on track when they travel away to Nebbi Central in the Stanbic Uganda Cup on Saturday afternoon.
The Matugga based StarTimes Uganda Premier League side have been on a downward spiral of late, winning only one of their last 14 league games.
The poor form in the League has seen Fred Kajoba’s side drop as low as 11th on the standings and it is hard to believe that they were at some point 2nd, just over 4 months ago.
However, the Cup has brought joy for them recently as they have kept on producing magnificent displays particularly in the last Round (Round of 16). Against all odds, Bright Stars eliminated URA 2-1 away from home thanks to a Jamil Karisa double at Namboole and that result came on the back of 11 League games minus victory.
They have eliminated two lower division sides already this campaign, humbling Kazo Exel 4-0 and then requiring penalties to get past Bumate. So coming up against Nebbi, the Stars will know how tricky a tie away to a lower division side can get and will hope not to repeat the mistakes they made against Bumate in the Round of 32.
With a host of big names in their ranks, including Captain Nelson Ssenkatuka, Brian Kayanja and Dan Bilikwalira, Bright Stars will surely be fancying themselves in this one but a trip to the North is usually complicated for many sides.
For Nebbi, they are enjoying a dream cup run at the moment.
Currently in the quarters, they are as far as they have ever gone in the Uganda Cup and will want to dream further.
With inspiration coming from the like of Onduparaka and Paidha Black Angels, who both reached the finals in the recent past, while in the second tier, Nebbi who are in their debut season in the Big League will believe anything is possible.
They will look at players like Julius Okumu, Jerome Jagen, Ronny Berocan, Felix Ngageno and skipper Julius Choka for inspiration on Saturday.
Match Facts:
This will be the first competitive meeting between the two sides.
Nebbi go into the game having faced three lower division sides in the cup this season, defeating all of them in normal time.
This will be the fourth consecutive home game for Nebbi in the Cup this season, the most by any side this campaign.
