MENGO – The International Futsal Courts in Mengo is the place to be this Thursday evening when the Futsal Super League enters into Matc-Day 16.
The highlight fixture of the night will see defending champions Dream flex it out with league leaders Yeak Kabowa.
After last week’s loss, Yek know that they may lose top spot in case of a loss tonight, a situation they would not want to find themselves in at this stage.
Yeak were out-classed 3-0 by Park 7 days ago to trim their lead at the top to just two points and a defeat to Dream coupled by a Park victory elsewhere, the Kabowa based side will relinquish top spot for the first time in over a month.
For Dream, this is a glorious opportunity to get back into the title race proper, after a slow start.
Currently occupying 3rd, the defending champions start the day six points behind the leaders and victory cuts their deficit to just 3 points.
Having not loss in any of their last 7 games, Dream will be optimistic they can blow the race wide open.
“We know the situation at the top and we will try our best to exploit it to the maximum, says Dream returning defender Kitanda John.
Kitanda missed last week’s 2-0 victory against Mengo City due to suspension.
He makes his return to the team at a crucial moment when they face the odds-on favourites to win the League this season.
“We know they are ahead of us and that is something we respect but we are the defending champions after all, continued the lanky defender.
“Park defeated them last time out and now the mental is on us to do likewise.
Yeak have 35 points while Dream are on 29.
For second placed park, they have a chance to temporarily go top as their fixture against Equator is the first on the menu at 6pm.
Park mist be high in spirit after their win against Yeak and if they can win against a struggling Equator side, they will have done their title chances huge favours and in process also pile the pressure on both Dream and Yeak who play later.
Equator have been struggling since the start of the season but a win against Bajim last time out, set the tone for today’s game.
Fourth placed Parakeets play against lowly side Elephants in one of the 7:00pm kick offs. At the same time, Kabowa United and Yap Stars will face off in the bottom of table affair.
Typhoon will go toe-to-toe with Bajim at 8:00pm with both sides aiming at winning ways. The whitewalkers played to a 1-1 draw with Nomad last week while Bajim lost to Equator.
League debutants Aidenal School of Art will lock horns with Kabowa United at 9:00pm. Aidenal are 11th while Kabowa United are 13th (second from bottom)
Nomad and Crown who are separated by one point will play against each other in another late kick off. Nomad are fifth with 27 points, one better than Crown.
Shafik Avemah leads the scoring chats with 26 goals while Park’s Babu Idd comes closet on 22.
