DAR ES SALAAM – Ethiopian based versatile midfielder Kirizestom Ntambi has been handed a start as Uganda prepares to take on Tanzania in their last Group L AFCON qualifier.
Ntambi has been away from the Cranes set up for a while and was only a late call up, announced days after the team was summoned.
The former SC Villa player was brought in to replace the injured Denis Iguma and will now start alongside Timothy Awanyi at the heart of the defence.
As anticipated, Vipers SC captain Tadeo Lwanga has also started.
Lwanga replaces the suspended Hassan Wasswa in midfield and will complete a trio that also features club-mate Moses Waiswa and Farooq Miya.
Upfront, Allan Kyambadde has also been handed his AFCON Qualifiers’ debut and will play alongside Patrick Kaddu and Emmanuel Okwi.
The Cranes have 13 points from their first 5 games with the only game in which they failed to pick maximum points being the 0-0 draw at home to Tanzania last September.
For Tanzania, they have 5 points and currently sit third on the standings. With the top two going through, the Taifa Stars will have to better second placed Lesotho’s result in the other Group L.
Lesotho also have 5 points but are second due to a better goal difference as compared to Tanzania. They take on Cape Verde away from home on the same day (Sunday).
