NEBBI – Wakiso Giants took a giant step towards securing promotion to the top tier on Thursday afternoon.
The one year old club defeated Nebbi Central 2-0 away from home to move to within a victory of winning the Elgon Group, which would intern see them secure promotion to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
Ivan Kiwewa and Karim Ndugwa scored the goals for Wakiso who registered a first victory in four games for the Purple Sharks.
Having drawn against both Kyetume and Light SS and then lost 2-0 to UPDF prior to Thursday, Ibrahim Kirya’s side who have been the most outstanding performers in the second tier thus far, put up a dominant display that sees them consolidate their lead at the top of the Elgon Group.
Kiwewa put Wakiso ahead on 15 minutes as he neatly finished off a Ndugwa assist.
Two minutes from the half hour mark, Ndugwa scored the second to ensure Wakiso held a comfortable 2-0 lead at halftime.
Nebbi who never really troubled Wakiso throughout the game never recovered as the visitors marched on to yet another victory, their 10th in 18 matches.
The victory sends Wakiso onto 37 points, six points above second placed Kyetume FC who defeated UPDF 2-1 in Mukono, on the same day.

For Nebbi, they remain bottom of the Elgon group with 11 points gathered in 17 games.
The Nebbi based side will be relegated to the Regional league if they fail to win all their remaining three games.
With two games to go, against Entebbe FC (H) and Doves All Stars (A), the Giants may seal their promotion with a game to spare if they win their next game.
