
LUGOGO – Outgoing KCCA FC captain Timothy Awanyi was on Tuesday night named the club’s best player of the just concluded 2018/19 season.
At a ceremony held at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo on Tuesday, 14th May, the lanky defender who is understood to be out of contract with the Kasasiros, took home two awards.
Awanyi was also named the KCCA FC Fans player of the year, beating off competition from midfielder Nicholas Kasozi, goalkeeper Charles Lukwago and striker Patrick Kaddu.
In total, Awanyi walked home with UGX 6 Million as the club’s MVP award came with a UGX 5m cheque while that of the fans came with UGX 1m.
At the same ceremony, Mustapha Kizza won the Jimmy Kirunda Players player of the year award. Mustapha narrowly beat Sulaiman Mutyaba, Timothy Awanyi and youngster-Allan Okello, to the award.
Speaking at the ceremony, KCCA FC Chairperson Aggrey Ashaba expressed his appreciation to everyone who has invested their effort in the club’s success over the course of the season.
“A football club cannot run without the enthusiasm of fans, noted Ashaba.
“I would like to say that without the fans, there is no way KCCA FC would be what it is today.
“It is important that when we are having contradictions we are able to share ideas so as we move this football club to the success that it desires.
“On the areas where we have come short, I apologize on behalf of the team and the areas where we have succeeded, I say thanks to everyone that has invested their efforts.
“All in all, thanks to everyone and I urge you to continue supporting this football club.
KCCA FC is set to make improvements on the state of the StarTimes Stadium, something Ashaba also mentioned in his speech.
“We have had numerous discussions with the Lord Mayor and the Executive Director regarding our Stadium that will enable us to have some improvements at the StarTimes Stadium.

At the same ceremony, KCCA FC Junior Team’s Juma Ibrahim was voted the Jackson Mayanja Young Player of the year.
Juma has had a stellar season which has seen him feature in the Uganda Cub’s CECAFA triumph and he was also part of the U17 National team that featured at the just concluded AFCON finals in Tanzania.
