Man City were crowned the 2018/19 Premier League champions on Sunday following a 4-1 win away to Brighton and Hove Albion. The Cityzens finished the season one point ahead of second placed Liverpool who were 2-0 winners at home to Wolves on the same day.
Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur finished 3rd and 4th respectively. The Blues drew 0-0 at Leicester on finals day while Spurs also shared spoils (2-2) with Everton on the same day.
For Arsenal, who defeated Burnley 3-1 away from home in their last game, finished 5th while United who were humbled 2-0 at Old Trafford had to settle for 6th.
The three teams that were relegated included Cardiff City (18th), Fulham (19th) and Huddersfield (20).
Arsenal’s Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and Liverpool duo of Muhammad Salah and Sadio Mane shared the Golden boot after ending the season with 22 goals apiece while Edin Hazard made the most assists with 15.
Here are the XI players who stood out for me this season in a 5:2:3
GK: Allison (Liverpool)
What a signing Allison has turned out to be for Liverpool. Made the most clean-sheets in the division with 20 and also conceded the least goals throughout the season (22).
CB: Matt Doherty (Wolves)
Arguably the most consistent player outside those that featured for the top 4 teams. His contributions in terms of goals and assists were a key catalyst in Wolves finishing 7th.
CB: Virgil Van Dijk (Liverpool)
Voted the best player of the season by his fellow professionals and arguably the best center-back in the world at the moment.
CB: Aymeric Laporte (Man City)
Laporte had one or two bad game but who doesn’t, especially during a 38 game season. Carried City’s defence on his shoulders throughout Vincent Kompany’s absence and fittingly, scored one of the four goals in the final day win over Brighton.
RWB: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)
12 Assists from the young Englishman. There is nothing more you could have asked for from the 20 year old. What a break-through season for Trent!
LWB: Andrew Robertson (Liverpool)
Equally as impressive as Trent. Robertson made 11 assists from Left-back in the 2018/19 season.
MF: Bernardo Silva (Man City)
My best performer for Man City throughout the season. City paid 43 Million for the 24 year old’s signature from Monaco and what a bargain it looks now!
MF: Edin Hazard (Chelsea)
Hazard led the assist charts with 15 for the season and also added a career high 16 goals as Chelsea finished 3rd.
MF: Raheem Sterling (Man City)
A career high 17 goals this season and 10 assists as City retained their Premier League crown.
FW: Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang (Arsenal)
One of the three top scorers, Aubameyang scored 22 goals for Arsenal throughout the entire 2018/19 Premier League season.
FW: Sadio Mane (Liverpool)
Whatever Mane touched, turned into Gold for Liverpool this past season. Out-shone Muhammad Salah and carried the Reds beyond expectations.
Whenever the Egyptian came short, Mane was there to do the clean-up.
