
FUFA Women’s Cup Final
Lady Doves vs Makerere University

LUGOGO – The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has released the names of officials that will be in charge of the FUFA Women’s Cup final on Saturday.
The 2019 final will be contested at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo, the same venue that hosted the Women Elite League final last Sunday.
FIFA Referee Diana Murungi will take charge of the contest as the center referee.
This will be the second FUFA Women’s final that Murungi is listed as an official after being an assistant referee in the 2nd edition in Kabohe, last year.
She will be assisted Catherine Nagadya and Wanyama Nantabo as the first and second assistant referees.
Fot the fourth official, it will be Catherine Ayaro.
The final will register a new champion as none of the two teams in this year’s penultimate game have triumphed in the competition before.
How the teams got to the final
Lady Doves began their title campaign at the round of 32 with a convincing 7-0 win over Wakiso Hills in Masindi.
At the Round of 16, Lady Doves eliminated Kampala Queens WFC by 3-0 in Kampala before benefiting from the advantage of Olila failing to show up in the quarterfinal game that confirmed a walkover for Lady Doves.
In the Semis, Lady Doves drew 2-2 in regular time with 2nd edition runners-up She Corporates however when the game progressed to kicks from the penalty mark Lady Doves won 3-2.
On the other hand, Makerere University WFC started on a high note by edging FUFA Women Elite league counterparts and 1st edition runners-up Gafford Ladies 3-0 in the round of 32. The former eliminated Bugiri Town View before defeating Kawempe Junior 3-1 in the quarterfinals.
During the semifinals, Makerere overpowered Echos HS 5-0 to progress to their first ever Cup final.
Both teams have never met in any competition and this will be their first head to head encounter.
Lady Doves midfielders Riticia Nabbosa and Lillian Veronica will both be featuring in their second Women’s Cup final.
Nabbosa lifted it with Olila HS WFC during the 1st edition in 2017 while Veronica lost in the final with Gafford Ladies the same year.

The last three final matches have produced 4 goals. Cissy Nantongo (Olila HS WFC) Evelyn Kakayi (Gafford Ladies) Mercy Nabulobi and Hasifah Nassuuna (UCU Lady Cardinals) are the players who have ever scored in the final.
