LUGOGO – Makerere University Women Football defeated Lady Doves 2-0 to clinch a first ever FUFA Women’s Cup on Saturday, June 6th.
In the game played at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo, Jemima Twesigye put the University side ahead from the spot in the 40th minutes, after teammate Catherine Ngadya was brought down by opposing defender Gladys Nakitoo.
In was a game in which Lady Doves struggled to impose themselves.
They had a chance to temporarily level matters at the start of the second half but striker Nuluh Nakyanzi failed to beat Makerere custodian Zahara Nankya in a one on one situation, sending he effort wide.
On 74 minutes, substitutes Lydia Nyandera and Miriam Akwero also had two chances in quick succession to level the scores but Nankya was on hand to pull off a double save and ensure Makerere held it’s advantage.
Twelve minutes from time, substitute Futumah Nakasumba, scoring Makerere’s second after she was played in by eventual tournament MVP Aminah Nababai.

Makerere held on to seal their first ever FUFA Women’s cup title and become the third team to win the tournament.
Olila High School (2017) and Uganda Christian University Lady Cardinals (2018) are the two other side who have won it.
For Lady Doves, they have now lost two finals in six days after losing the Women Elite League penultimate game to UCU last Sunday.
Makerere University’s Aminah Nababi was named the Most Valuable Player. She scored 3 goals in 3 games.
Uganda Martyrs defender Shadia Nankya took the top scorer award with 7 goals while She Corporates’ goalkeeper Vannesa Karungi was named the best goalkeeper.
Tooro queens took home the fair play award with prize money of UGX 200,000.
