URA FC vs Maroons FC
Mandela National Stadium, Namboole
Friday, 31-08-2019 @4pm
NAMBOOLE – URA FC will be hoping to put an end to a poor run of result against Maroons when the two sides meet at Namboole on Friday.
The Tax Collectors took only a single point off Maroons last season as they lost one and drew the other of their two fixtures.
The good news for them is that Brian Majwega who scored in the 1-0 defeat is now a URA FC player and will not be able to produce similar heroics against Sam Simbwa’s side.
However, Majwega will not feature for URA FC either as he is currently nursing an injury.
He will be joined on the sidelines by Joachim Ojera and Ibrahim Dada who are also injured.
David Bagoole and Hassan Kalega may also not feature. Bagoole is yet to secure his release from Busoga United while Kalega has not received his license yet.
Despite the absentees, URA are expected to have a host of players present after making several signings in the offseason.
Najib Fesali, Ashraf Mandela, Ivan Sserubiri and Mikidad Ssenyonga are some of the new signings in line for a debut.
For Maroons, they will be starting life under new head coach Douglas Bamweyana.
The former SC Villa and Express tactician joined the Prisons’ based side in the offseason but he is already optimistic about his team’s chances in both the game and season as a whole.
“I believe we are very well prepared to compete with anybody in the league,” Bamweyana noted ahead of the game.
“We hope to be the toughest opponents in the league.”
“We want to use the first five games to confirm our belief as a team that we can cause several upsets on road to having a very good season compared to last season.
“The game against URA provides a very good opportunity to gauge how we measure against the top sides in the league – yet confident in our preparations and that we have full trust that we have enough quality to get the result we need.”
Match Stats
This will be the 11th meeting between Maroons and URA FC since December 2010.
In the previous 10, URA have won 4, Maroons 1 while the other 5 have all ended in a draw.
However, URA’s las victory against Maroons came in March 2016 in a 3-0 victory.
The 1-0 loss at home to Maroons last season was URA’s first defeat at home to the Prisons side in their past history.
