
The Uganda U17 women’s national team coach, Ayub Khalifa has named the final team for the upcoming COSAFA championships in Mauritius.
A squad of 20-girls was announced on Sunday evening as the team continues its preparations for the underage tournament that will run from 20th to 29th of September.
It was also confirmed that Kawempe Moslem forward Juliet Nalukenge will captain the side that has three goalkeepers, five defenders, six midfielders and six forwards.
Speaking after the team was announced; Khalifa noted that he and his technical team are currently embarking on final preparations to ensure that the girls are ready for the tournament.
“We are currently focused on final preparations for the final team, said Khalifa.
“Our focus is on movement on the pitch and their energy levels.
“We are also focusing on trying to score more goals because we have not been scoring enough.”
Uganda is in Group A of the championships alongside Zambia, Mauritius and Comoros.
Their opening game will be against Zambia on the 20th, two days before they take on the hosts. The last group game will be against Comoros.
The team has been camping at Njeru Technical Center for 10 days and had two practice games against Kampala Select and FUFA Women Elite League select team, winning 2-1 and 3-1 respectively.
On Wednesday, 18th September, the team is expected to travel to Mauritius for the final event.
