Proline FC fought hard to draw 1-1 with AS Kigali in the CAF Confederations Cup on Saturday afternoon.
The Lugogo based side took the lead through Bright Anukani but were pegged back by a late Farouk Sentongo penalty.
The draw means Proline just need a goalless draw in the second leg in Kampala to progress into the the group stages of the competition.
AS Kigali looked to be in firm control of proceedings from the start as they dominated possession.
They created the first chance of the afternoon off a reckless pass by Ibrahim Wamannah but Rick Martel’s effort went straight at Hassan Matovu in the Proline goal.
At the other end, Bernard Muwanga saw a powerful header from an Anukani corner saved by the AS Kigali custodian.
At the break, both side looked intent on opening the scoring but the scores were still locked at 0-0.
Three minutes into the second half, Anukani opened the scoring with his first goal of the season.
Kigali could have equalized on 71 minutes but could not capitalize on Mustafa Mujuzi’s defensive mistake.
The equalizer eventually came with four minutes to play as Ssentongo converted from the spot after Saka Mpima had handled in the area.
Despite late pressure from the home side, Proline held on to take a precious point and away goal into the second leg that will be played in Kampala a fortnight from Saturday.
