CHAN 2020 Qualifiers – Second Leg
Burundi vs Uganda
Bujumbura, Burundi
Saturday, 21-09-2019
Uganda Cranes interim head coach, Abdallah Mubiru has named the final 18 man squad for the upcoming CHAN second round qualifier.
The Cranes will take on Burundi in the first leg of the qualifiers on Saturday afternoon in Bujumbura.
Mubiru along with his technical team named the traveling players after Wednesday’s afternoon training at Lugogo.
Paul Mucureezi and Yasin Mugabi headlined the list of 9 players that have been dropped.
Mucureezi who plays at Mbarara City FC was hoping to make a return to the team that he once scored 5 goals-in a game against South Sudan, but will have to wait a little longer.
For Mugabi, he has been dropped for the second round-running having also missed the first round victory over Somalia.
Speaking after the naming of the final team, Mubiru said that his team was now ready to face Burundi.
“The team is ready and every one in it is prepared, determined and committed to giving positive results and performance when we meet Burundi over the weekend, noted the Mubiru who also dabbles as the Police FC head coach.
“It gives me courage as a coach because the best you can get from the players is the situation whereby the players are ready to give whatever they can for the success of the team.”
The final team was named just over 24 hours after they drew 0-0 with the Uganda U20 side at FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.
They are expected to travel aboard Kenya Airways at 3 AM in the wee hours of Thursday morning.
The game will be played on Saturday, 21st September 2019.
