Uganda Cranes 0-0 Uganda Hippos
FUFA Technical Center, Njeru
Tuesday, 17-09-2019
The Uganda Cranes team preparing for the CHAN 2020 second round qualifiers against Burundi were on Tuesday held to a goalless draw by the U20 side at Njeru.
The Hippos who are also gearing up for the CECAFA U20 2020 proved a hard nut to crack in a highly competitive encounter.
Striker Frank Ssebufu and Abdul Karim Watambala got close to breaking the deadlock for the Hippos in the first half but were denied by goalkeeper Yasin Mugabi.
Defender Benon Tahomera missed with a header at the start of the second half as the Uganda Cranes upped their offence.
Either technical wings called for changes in a bid to test out the players at their disposal in varying formations of play.
Nonetheless, there was no breakthrough for either sides but this will be a confidence booster especially for the junior side.
Uganda Cranes will be away to Burundi in the first leg that will be played this Saturday in Bujumbura.
The Hippos will be hosting 10 other countries for the CECAFA U-20 Championship that will be staged at the Pece Stadium in Gulu and FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.
Uganda is in group A alongside Eritrea, Djibouti and Sudan. This group will be based in Gulu.
