Moi International Stadium, Nairobi
Sunday, 08-09-2019
After a good display at the Africa Cup of Nations 2019, the Uganda National men’s football team, the Cranes returned to action on Sunday.
The team currently managed by Abdallah Mubiru were in Kenya, taking on the Harambe Stars at the Moi International Stadium in Nairobi.
By the end of 90 minutes, the two teams could not be separated as they drew 1-1.
Emmanuel Okwi gave the Cranes a first-half lead before Kenneth Miguna level in the second (half).
It was a game which could have swung either way but either due to poor finishing or good goalkeeping, it finished at level terms.
The Cranes who were clearly better in the first half, saw Okwi force a save from Patrick Matasi while Allan Kyambadde rattled the frame of the goal after good inter-play with Okwi.
Their dominance in the early exchange finally paid off on 22 minutes when Okwi slotted in from inside the area after he was teed up by Kizito Luwagga.
Mubiru’s side could have doubled their lead before half time but Tadeo Lwanga headed wide a Luwagga cross.
After the break, the tide changed direction with Kenya taking charge of proceedings.
After creating several half chances, they equalized through Miguna on 51 minutes.
The Harambe Stars continued to take the game to Uganda but could not find the winner.
Lukwago produced a stupendous save to deny Michael Olunga before the striker hit the woodwork in the closing stages.
