
KAMPALA – Express FC head coach George Ssemwogerere has been fined UGX 500,000 for ordering ball boys to hide match balls.
It is understood that the gaffer committed the above-mentioned offense during the Red Eagles 5-3 victory over Police FC on Friday, October 4th, 2019.
The fine was confirmed through a document sent by the Competitions Disciplinary Panel (CDP) on Thursday morning.
“It was reported in the referee’s match reports that during the SUPL match #49 Express FC vs Police FC played on Friday 4th October 2019 at the Betway Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku, the head coach George Ssemwogerere ordered the ball boys to hide match balls in the 58th minute which led to delayed restarts to the game, read part of the document.
After Express FC submitted a response to the disciplinary proceedings, the CDP ruled that Ssewogerere pays a fine of UGX 500,000 and he is further warned against repeating the same actions.
The fine is supposed to be paid before October 23rd 2019 and failure will lead to suspension from the technical bench.
What the rules say
UPL rules state that ‘matchday referee must ensure physical presence of at least 8 matchday balls before kick-off and this number of balls under normal circumstances must at all times during play be available for use’.
The win over Police at the start of the month elevated Express FC to 7 points at the time. They went on to beat Kyetume FC 1-0 and lose 3-0 away to Vipers SC in their next two games.
Currently, the Red Eagles are 11th on the log with 10 points from their first 9 games.
Their next two fixtures will see Express host Busoga United on the 29th of September before traveling away to Wakiso Giants four days later.
