Express FC registered their maiden home victory of the 2019/20 Uganda Premier League season thanks to a 5-3 win over Police FC on Friday.
Frank Kalanda helped himself to a brace while Frank Ssenyondo, captain Disan Ggaliwango and substitute Ivan Ocholit added one each for the Red Eagles.
For Police, Ben Ochen grabbed a brace after Timothy Oyamo’s strike had opened the visitors’ day’s account.
Police FC were dealt an early blow with goalkeeper Hilary Jomi colliding with Ssenyodo and the former forced off with an injury.
The former Nyamityobora custodian was replaced with Alfred Ginyera who did not do so much to help the Cops’ quest for points.
He conceded with in minutes of coming on as Ggaliwango scored after he was played in by Kalanda.
After conceding, Police took the game by its neck and were rewarded as Oyamo headed in Denis Rukundo’s cross.
However, Express restored their advantage through Ssenyondo after he was teed up by Daniel Shabena.
The lively Kalande got his name onto the score sheet slotting in past Ginyera afte he was played through on goal by Muhammed Yiga’s long ball to put Express 3-1 up.
Just before halftime Ocen bundled home to bring his side with a goal of levelling the matter.
However, after the break, Kalanda completed his brace off Ssenyondo’s pass to restore the home side’s two goal caution.
Eight minutes from time, Ocen converted from the spot to ensure the contest ends in nerve-wracking mode.
With Police pushing for a winner, Express capitalized on the Cops’ pushing numbers forward.
Ocholit, who had replaced Kalanda in the second half chased down a Ggaliwango free kick and slotted in on the far post to ensure all three points remain at Wankuluku.
Express now move into 8th on the log with 7 points from as many games.
They have now won two games and drawn the other of those 7 games. They had earlier beaten Mbarara City FC 3-2 in Luzira.
For Police, they remain second from bottom with two points from 7 games.
The Cops who were docked three points earlier in the season have now lost 4 of their first 7 games.
In their fixtures, Express will be at home to Kyetume next Tuesday while Police FC host Vipers at Kabaka Kyabaggu on Wednesday.
