Brighton vs Tottenham Hotspurs
The America Express Community Stadium, Brighton
Saturday, 05-10-2019 @2:30pm
Referee: Jonathan Moss
Brighton welcome back Solly March, Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Leon Balogun from injury. Davy Propper is again doubtful with the hamstring problem that saw him miss out last weekend, while Leandro Trossard, Shane Duffy and Bernardo remain absent.
Tottenham will be without banned right-back Serge Aurier after his sending off against Southampton last Saturday. Ryan Sessegnon suffered an injury setback in training and remains sidelined, as does Giovani Lo Celso.
Tottenham have lost just twice to Brighton in their past 16 meetings in all competitions (W11, D3). Spurs completed the league double over Albion last season, with both wins by a single-goal margin. The Seagulls’ last victory over Tottenham was a 2-1 home win in the top flight in April 1983. Tottenham have scored in all but one of their previous 17 league and cup matches against Brighton.
Tottenham have won just once in five games in all competitions and have conceded 12 goals in the process. They have accrued only 22 points from their last 19 Premier League matches (W6, D4, L9). Their tally of 11 points after seven matches is their lowest since Mauricio Pochettino’s first season in charge in 2014-15 (also 11). Spurs are winless in nine league away games (D2, L7) – they had previously won nine of 10 on the road. Tottenham are without an away clean sheet in 10 league matches, dating back to January. Spurs’ last nine Premier League goals have all been scored before half-time. Tanguy Ndombele has scored two goals in his first five Premier League appearances.
Burnley vs Everton
Turf Moor, Burnely
Saturday, 05-10-2019 @5pm
Referee: Graham Scott
None of the 10 Premier League matches between these sides has ended in a draw – Everton have won six matches and Burnley four. Everton did the double over the Clarets last season – winning 5-1 at Turf Moor and 2-0 at home. The Toffees last won on consecutive league visits to Burnley in March 1970. The Clarets have scored in their last 21 top-flight home matches against Everton, dating back to a 2-0 defeat on 1 March 1958.
Burnley manager Sean Dyche is unlikely to risk Jack Cork as he has a minor fracture in his shoulder blade. Fellow midfielder Danny Drinkwater is back in training but is not yet fit enough to return from an ankle injury.
Andre Gomes is back for Everton after overcoming a rib problem, while Theo Walcott has recovered after being forced off against Manchester City following a blow to the head. Midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin remains on the sidelines.
Liverpool vs Leicester City
Anfield Stadium, Liverpool
Saturday, 05-10-2019 @5pm
Referee: Chris Kavanagh
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will make a late decision on whether fit-again goalkeeper Alisson starts, but defender Joel Matip has been ruled out. Xherdan Shaqiri is again absent because of the calf injury he suffered in training last month.
Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that James Maddison will be fit after an ankle injury forced him to miss the win over Newcastle. Only long-term absentee Matty James remains on the sidelines.
Liverpool are unbeaten in eight Premier League home matches against Leicester since a 2-0 defeat in May 2000. Leicester and Manchester City were the only sides to pick up a point in the league at Anfield last season. The Foxes have not avoided defeat in consecutive top-flight matches against Liverpool since a run of seven games between December 1996 and May 2000.
Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 43 home league games – the longest current run in the top five European leagues, and Liverpool’s second longest ever in top-flight history. Their previous best streak, 63 matches between February 1978 and December 1980, was eventually ended by Leicester. The Reds’ sequence of 16 consecutive league victories is the second longest in English top-flight history, bettered only by Manchester City’s 18 wins between August and December 2017. Liverpool are only the second team to win their opening seven Premier League games – Chelsea began their 2005-06 title-winning campaign with nine victories. The only previous occasion Liverpool won their first seven top-flight games was in 1990-91, when they started with eight wins but ended up runners-up to Arsenal. Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 24 league games. They last had a longer undefeated streak between May 1987 and March 1988 (a run of 31 matches).
Norwich City vs Aston Villa
Carrow Road, Norfolk
Saturday, 05-10-2019 @5pm
Referee: Andy Madley
Norwich have claimed just two victories in their last 14 top-flight games against Aston Villa (D5, L7). But the Canaries have won the last three league matches – all in the Championship between April 2018 and May 2019. None of the last 25 Premier League games between two newly-promoted sides have been won by the away side.
Norwich will hand a first Premier League start to third-choice goalkeeper Michael McGovern, as Ralf Fahrmann and Tim Krul are ruled out. Grant Hanley has suffered a setback, meaning the Canaries will be without at least nine players through injury. Sam Byram may not be fit enough to start, while Todd Cantwell is a slight doubt but Jamal Lewis and Ben Godfrey have both been passed fit.
Aston Villa’s Matt Targett is available despite coming off against Burnley. Tyrone Mings, who hurt his shin last weekend, is also set to play, while Henri Lansbury is back in contention. Record signing Wesley suffered a head injury against the Clarets but has been cleared to feature, but this game comes too soon for Jonathan Kodjia and James Chester.
Watford vs Sheffield United
Vicarage Road, London
Saturday, 05-10-2019 @5pm
Referee: Andre Marriner
Will Hughes may return for Watford after missing the last two league matches through injury, but Troy Deeney is still recovering from knee surgery. Roberto Pereyra could be recalled to the starting line-up, having replaced Gerard Deulofeu at half-time against Wolves.
Sheffield United club captain Billy Sharp is back in contention after completing a three-game ban. But fellow forward David McGoldrick remains sidelined by a groin problem.
The only previous Premier League meetings came in the 2006-07 season, with Sheffield United winning both games 1-0. The last competitive match between these sides came on 12 March 2011, with Watford winning 3-0 in a Championship game at Vicarage Road (the Blades had two players sent off in the opening 34 minutes).
West Ham United vs Crystal Palace
London Stadium, London
Saturday, 05-10-2019 @7:30pm
Referee: Michael Oliver
West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has been ruled out for up to two months because of a hip injury, with Roberto set to replace him. Manuel Lanzini is fully fit after a foot problem but Winston Reid and Michail Antonio remain absent.
Crystal Palace captain Luka Milivojevic is suspended after receiving his fifth booking of the season last weekend. Mamadou Sakho is again likely to miss out with a muscle injury, while Connor Wickham is also a doubt.
West Ham are unbeaten in the past eight league encounters (W4, D4). Palace have won only five of 26 top-flight matches against the Hammers, including four wins in 16 Premier League meetings (D5, L7). The Eagles have taken just one point from three league visits to the London Stadium (D1, L2).
