Kyetume FC vs Vipers SC
Mandela National Stadium, Namboole
Tuesday, 29-10-2019 @4pm
NAMBOOLE – Vipers SC is absolutely cruising in the Uganda Premier League this season.
Since the start of the season, the Venoms are yet to lose a game and that does not look like happening any time soon.
After 9 games, Edward Golola’s side sits top of the log with 21 points, two ahead of second-placed BUL FC.
On Tuesday afternoon, they have a chance to better that record when they take on Kyetume FC at Mandela National Stadium.
Coming off a draw away to Onduparaka FC, Vipers will be expected to come up with a response and take care of the Slaughters in their own back yard.
Before the Onduparaka game, Golola’s side had won all their past four games, taking care of Proline, Police, Express and BUL.
The Kyetume game may not be as straight forward as it looks on paper as the hosts have vast experience in their squad. However, Golola is optimistic that his charges can pick the desired result.
“Yes, they are quite organised in the back, noted Golola ahead of the game as quoted by Vipers’ official website.
“We want to come and win and the experience bit of it is not something to scare us.
“We have a balanced squad that has both the young and tested players who have what it takes to challenge any opponent.”
Golola further added that despite his team travelling that long 800kms distance less than two days ago, they are all in good shape to accomplish the task ahead.
“The boys are fine both physically and mentally but we are also happy to welcome back those that didn’t travel with us.”
Golola will once again ring some changes in his personnel as he looks to avoid a burnout after that tiresome journey to and from Arua hence Innocent Wafula and Rahmat Ssenfuka stand chances to feature after recovering from bouts of fever which saw both missing the last two games. Frank Tumwesigye is ruled out with a cold but Denis Mwemezi is back in contention having missed the last game due to the Masaza Cup final where he was crowned top scorer with 7 goals. Dan Sserunkuma is also available for selection again as the striker was left out of the travelling contingent to Arua last week.
For Kyetume, they must be in high spirits after two perfect results in their last couple of games.
The Slaughters defeated both Bright Stars and Proline 1-0, results that saw them keep clean sheets.
Ever since attaining promotion, Kyetume have proved hard to beat, losing just three games in the process. More impressively, none of those defeats have come by more than a goal, all ending 1-0.
Kyetume have been formidable at the back and are the only side yet to concede more than a single goal in a particular game.
However, scoring goals has been an issue for George Best Nsimbe’s side and they have found the back of the net on only five occasions so far.
