Uganda Premier League
SC Villa 0-0 Vipers SC
Mandela National Stadium, Namboole
Wednesday, 02-10-2019
SC Villa and Vipers SC played out a goalless stalemate at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole on Tuesday.
It was a game that promised so much in the build up but never lived up to the expectations.
Villa were dominant most of the game and looked more composed but struggled to make their possession count.
Bashir Mutanda came closest to scoring for the Jogoos, hitting the post early in the game and also having an effort ruled out for offside in the second half.
Emmanuel Kalyoowa also saw an effort comfortably saved by Mutombora.
However, it was the visitors who looked more likely to score.
One-time Uganda Premier league top scorer Dan Sserunkuma found the back of the net in the second half but his effort was correctly ruled out for offside.
The dread-locked forward also saw another effort cleared off the line by U20 national team captain Gavin Kizito.
Sserunkuma was also denied a penalty after he was clipped in the area by Villa custodian Saidi Keni.
In the end, neither he, his peers or the hosts could break the dead-lock as the match ended like it had started.
The draw takes Villa to 11 points and leaves them third on the standings.
For Vipers, they are now on eight points from four games having won two and drawn as many.
After KCCA FC losing 1-0 away to Tooro United on the same day, the Venoms remain the only unbeaten team in the division, currently.
Villa will return to action on Saturday against Busoga United while Vipers are at home to Proline FC on the same day.
