KAMPALA – After days of speculation, Wakiso Giants FC have finally released a statement regarding the status of head coach Kefa Kisala.
Many media outlets reported that Kisala had been fired in the wake of Wakiso Giants 3-0 loss to Express FC last Saturday but the club was yet to release a statement.
However, on Monday afternoon, the Purple Sharks have come out to notify that the two parties have indeed parted ways.
“The club and coach Kefa Kisala have mutually agreed to terminate the employment contract, read part of the statement.
“The reasons for termination remain confidental but are for the benefits of either party.
“The club thanks Kefa for his services over the past months and wishes him well in his next endeavour. He now becomes an integral part of the club’s history and we are proud of the successes we shared together.”
Kisala took iver the coaching role at Wakiso in July, replacing Ibrahim Kirya who led the side to promotion to the top tier in the 2018/19 season.
Under his guidence, Kisala has overseen 11 Uganda Premier League matches, winning four, drawing once and losing the other six.
His departure comes as no surprise as Wakiso Giants’ form has been deteriorating of late.
In their last four games, the Purple Sharks have lost three including both of the last two.
As Kisala departs, Wakiso are yet to name his replacement but according to the statement, Steven Bengo will take charge of the side on interim basis.
Bengo was part of the squad that earned promotion to the top tier in May and will surley know his way around.
His first assignment will be away to leaders Vipers SC on Tuesday, November 4th.
