LUGOGO – Cranes head coach Johnathan McKinstry has named the starting XI for Uganda’s third Group A match against Eritrea in the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup.
The North Irishman has made nine changes to the team that started in the 2-0 win over Somalia on Monday afternoon.
Kyetume FC goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa has been handed the task to safeguard the Cranes’ goal, replacing Charles Lukwago.
In front of Mutakubwa, Paul Mbowa has been slotted in alongside captain Halid Lwaliwa at the center of a back four which also sees Mustafa Mujuzi replace Paul Willa at right-back while Mustafa Kizza maintains his role at left-back.
The midfield has all been rotated with Nicholas Kasozi, Muzamir Mutyaba and Karim Watambala coming in for Shafick Kagimu, Allan Okello and Bright Anukani.
The three up front have also been reshuffled with Viane Sekajugo and Ben Ocen who both started against Burundi, returning alongside Uganda Premier League top scorer Steven Mukwala.
Uganda and Eritrea rarely meet and this will be only their third meeting since 2007.
In the previous two, either side has won once with Eritrea winning 3-2 in a friendly played in December 2007 while Uganda triumphed 3-0 in the CECAFA Senior Challenge cup in 2013.
The Cranes have been exceptional so far, winning both of their opening Group A games.
Johnathan McKinstry’s side defeated Burundi 2-1 on Saturday before taking care of Somalia 2-0 on Monday.
The six points earned so far mean that three more will see Uganda finish as group leaders and book a spot in the semi-finals of the regional competition.
