The first edition of the Open Mind Chess Rapids will take place at the Kyadondo Rugby Club on Saturday, 14th December.
The one-day event is organised by Solomon Lubega’s Open Mind Chess Academy. It shall have both the open and women section, and there will also be a junior section.
The organisers have set a time control of 15 minutes plus twenty seconds increment played on a Swiss format.
Over 50 players are expected to take part. WFM Goretti Angolikin, Rajab Kamoga, CM Joshua Katumba, Ezekiel Matsiko who is commonly known as Ikemat are among the notable names that have confirmed participation.
Players have been motivated by the addition of cash prizes. The top three players in the open category will be awarded cash prizes while the top two in the ladies section will walk away with prize money. In the junior section, only medals and certificates shall be awarded.
