The Uganda Premier League (UPL) Secretariat has confirmed January 7th as the date for the return of the top flight.
The League broke off on 3rd December following KCCA FC’s 4-0 win over Proline at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.
The break-off was delayed as a consequence of both KCCA FC and Proline engagements in the CAF Confederations Cup.
Unlike in the recent past, it was inevitable that teams had to endure a no-action period in December duo to the CECAFA Senior Challenge cup which saw locally-based players take part.
Now that the CECAFA is out of the way, UPL action will resume on Tuesday, January 7th with two games.
URA FC will host SC Villa at the Arena of Visions in Bombo while Onduparaka FC are away to Tooro United at a venue yet to be confirmed.
The following day will also have two games with KCCA FC taking on Mbarara City while Busoga United hosts Express FC.
After a one-day break, Vipers will play home to Kyetume FC on Friday, the same day Proline will be away to Maroons FC.
Match-day 16 will conclude on Saturday with BUL FC traveling away to Bright Stars while Wakiso Giants entertains Police FC.
The first clash of the big sides will be on January 17th with Vipers SC hosting SC Villa.
The Kampala Derby between SC Villa and Express FC will take place on the 29th of January at a venue yet to be communicated.
On Tuesday, February 18, Vipers SC will host KCCA FC at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende in what is the biggest fixture of the second round.
Ahead of the second round, Vipers lead the standings with 36 points, four ahead of defending champions KCCA FC who occupy second spot.
Police (12), Bright Stars (10) and Proline (9) are the three sides currently occupying the bottom three spots.
