After the Wednesday shocks in the Uganda Cup, the most prestigious Cup competition returns on Thursday with six games across the country.
With all the three Uganda Premier League teams that played on Wednesday eliminated, those in action today will be hoping to avoid a similar fate.
Most of the eyes will be on 9-time winners SC Villa as they are the biggest name in action on Thursday.
The past decade was a trying one for SC Villa but somehow managed to win their 9th Uganda Cup, defeating KCCA FC in the 2015 final.
With Vipers SC now out of the competition, Villa’s odds to win it have slightly increased and they will be hoping to take full advantage when they take on less-known Super Eagles in Gulu.
Speaking ahead of the game, SC Villa head coach Edward Kaziba noted that they will not be taking Super Eagles for granted especially after the shocks that highlighted Wednesday.
“After those upsets, it’s a really big opener that anything can happen, Kaziba noted as quoted by the SportsNation.
“And because of that, we are not taking any chances. We are going all out to see that we come back with a victory.
“Our aim is to see ourselves play that last match and that is the final – We want to win this cup.”
Villa are hoping to win this year’s title and victory in the competition will see them pull level with record winners Express FC and KCCA FC on 10 titles.
With defender Gavin Kizito AWOL, only Emmanuel Kalyowa is expected not to feature for Villa due to injury.
The other Uganda Premier League sides that will be in action on Thursday include Bright Stars who are away to Koboko Rising Stars and Maroons who will take on Young Elephants in Nwoya.
The other fixtures pit Six Oclock at home to Kitara, Kampala University host Kataka while Kiboga Young are away to Gagaba.
