Liverpool all but stamped their name on the 2019/20 Premier League title following a 2-0 victory over Man United on Sunday evening. A goal in either half by Virgil Van Dijk and Muhammad Salah did the trick for the run-away leaders. Liverpool now moves onto 64 points, 16 ahead of second-placed Man City whilst having a game in hand.
For City, they could only manage a 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace despite Sergio Aguero netting a brace in between a Cenk Tosun opener and Fernandinho’s late own-goal. The draw ensures City stay second with 48.
Leicester City also maintains third spot following a 2-1 loss away to Burnley on Sunday. Harvey Barnes handed the Foxes the lead but Chris Wood and Ashley Westwood scored twice in the second half to ensure Leicester lose the game, one that saw Jammie Vardy miss a penalty. The Foxes remain in 45 points.
Fourth-placed Chelsea were also defeated this past weekend. Frank Lampard’s side lost 1-0 away to Newcastle United with Isaac Hayden netting the winner in stoppage time. The loss sees the Blues remain onto 39 points.
For Arsenal, they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Sheffield United on Saturday. Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring at the stroke of halftime but John Fleck equalised for the visitors seven minutes from time to ensure the two sides shared spoils. The draw leaves Arsenal in 10th spot with 29 points.
Tottenham too drew their weekend’s fixture 0-0 at Watford, a result that sees them maintain 8th with 31 points.
Elsewhere, Brighton drew 1-1 with Aston Villa, Norwich beat Bournemouth 1-0, West Ham were held to a 1-1 draw by Everton while Wolves came from two goals down to defeat Southampton 3-2.
