Barely a week to the start of the 2019/20 Uganda Premier League (UPL), venues for all 16 teams have been confirmed.
Almost half of the top-flight teams had not confirmed venues at which they intended to host games at in the second round when the second round fixtures were announced at the end of December.
However, that has now been sorted after the UPL secretariat released an updated fixture with all venues and TV schedule.
StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo will harbour three teams in the second round unlike two which was the case in the first (round). Joining KCCA FC and Proline FC is Police FC who used the same venue last season.
St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende will once again be home to Vipers SC and despite attempts by Express FC to host their games at the venue, the Venoms’ management looks to have turned down the request.
Express FC have in turn been force to seek solace at Kavumba, the same venue at which Bright Stars will host their games too.
SC Villa have somehow made a return to Mandela National Stadium in Namboole and they will be the only side playing their home games at the 40,000 seater.
URA FC and Kyetume FC who at some point-in the first round, used Namboole, will have to get accommodation at the Arena of Visions in Bombo and Mighty Arena in Jinja respectively.
The other team that will be moving to an alternative venue is Mbarara City FC who have secured Bombo Barracks Stadium after Kakyeka was deemed unfavourable for top-flight fixtures.
For Tooro United FC (St. Paul National Seminary Grounds in Fortportal), Onduparaka FC (Green Light Stadium in Arua), Maroons FC (Luzira Prisons Stadium) and Wakiso Giants FC (Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium Wakissha), they have all been allowed to use their respective first round venues.
This is the same case for BUL FC and Busoga United FC who will return to the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru and Mighty Arena in Jinja respectively.
The UPL second round starts on Tuesday, 7th January-2020 with URA FC hosting 16-time record champions SC Villa while Tooro United FC will be at home to Onduparaka FC on the same day.
The URA FC vs SC Villa game will be on TV along with three more games on match-day 16.
Vipers SC head into the second round in top spot with 36 points, four ahead of second-place KCCA FC.
