Bright Anukani scored twice as Proline FC edged Tooro United 2-1 on Tuesday.
The crafty midfielder struck once in each half in what was a vital clash in the bid to survival relegation for either side.
Anukani first wiggled his way into the area before wrong footing Tooro United custodian Chrispas Kusima for the opener on 18 minutes.
He then made it 2-0 with 17 minutes to play, connecting neatly with Hakim Kiwanuka’s cross-shot while inside the area.
With Proline sailing to victory, Tooro United ensured a nervy ending as they pulled one back four minutes from time.
After James Begisa was judged to have handled substitute John Byamukama’s cross while inside the area, Tooro captain Mike Kawooya stepped up and converted from the spot.
It was an open encounter which saw either side create several scoring chances but the tally of three goals-on the day, could not be eclipsed.
Brian Umony saw a shot from distance parried to safety by Kusima before the custodian fisted away Anukani’s free kick.
Kiwanuka hit the bar late in the second half while substitute Mato had an effort miraculously saved by Kusima after he was teed up by Kiwanuka on the counter.
Tooro who had lost only one of their last six games in all competitions also had chances of their own.
Tricky forward Charles Musiige twice missed from a rebound in the first half with the first pushed away to safety by Hassan Matovu while the other missed the target.
January signing Eddie Kapampa also twice tried his luck from a free kick but one was comfortably saved by Matovu while the other sailed over.
Byamukama then saw a weak effort head straight at the home side’s custodian before Yafesi Mubiru’s goal bound effort was expertly cleared off the line by Begisa.
It is a vital three points for Proline who now move to 21 points for the season.
However, they remain rooted at the bottom of the pile, three points away from safety.
For Tooro, they remain second from bottom, just a point above Proline.
