
MENGO – Uganda Cranes head coach Jonathan McKinstry has released a 34-man squad for the 2020 CHAN.
The provisional squad which will be trimmed in the due course was announced on Thursday morning during a press conference held at FUFA House in morning.
Like it is always the case when teams are announced, their have been a couple of notable omissions.
KCCA FC midfielder Gift Ali has been left out of the team.
Ali has been arguably the Kasasiro’s best player this season with consistent performances day in and out but has been left out.
Vipers SC midfielder Allan Kayiwa who has in the recent past been part of the national team set up has also been overlooked along with Busoga United playmaker David Bagoole.
The squad also features some surprising inclusions which are headlined by injured KCCA FC custodian and captain Charles Lukwago.
Lukwago dislocated his had last weekend but has made the grade along with four other goal keepers.
The other surprises are also KCCA FC, defender John Revita who has been out with injury-for a while is on the list along with youngster Herbert Achai.
Uganda will be featuring in their 5th CHAN championships.
The Cranes have never progressed past the group stages and will hope to have more luck this time round.
Uganda is in group C of the championships along with defending champions Morocco, Togo and East African neighbors Rwanda.
